SAVINGS & INVESTMENTS

Halpin Wealth and Mortgages

Make your money work harder

Whether you are building a lump sum, saving for a goal, or putting surplus income to work, we will match your money to the right investment strategy for your situation.

Talk to Us About Your Savings

Leaving money in a deposit account is a quiet financial mistake

In an era of inflation, cash sitting in a low-interest account is losing real value every year. We help clients put capital to work in a way that reflects their attitude to risk, their time horizon, and their goals, whether that is building long-term wealth, funding a child's education, or creating a solid financial buffer.

The right investment depends on what is already in place around it

We take time to understand your full financial picture before making any recommendation. Your savings and investment strategy should fit around your pension, your protection, your mortgage, and your tax position, not exist in isolation from them.

Before You Invest

Build Your Emergency Fund FirstMost financial planners recommend having 3 months of income set aside before investing surplus capital
Understand Your Risk ProfileEvery investment carries some level of risk. We assess your attitude to risk before making any recommendation
Tax EfficiencyHow you hold your investment can be as important as where you invest. We structure everything to minimise unnecessary tax

Got Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

You can start a regular savings plan from a low monthly amount. For lump sum investments, the minimum varies by product but is typically 20,000 euros or more. The most important thing is not the amount you start with but having a clear goal and a structure that suits your situation. We will advise on what makes sense for where you are now.
Saving typically means putting money into a deposit account where it is accessible but earns little return. Investing means putting money into assets such as funds, bonds, or equities with the expectation of higher returns over time, accepting that values can go up and down. Investing is generally more appropriate for money you do not need in the short term and can leave untouched for several years.
Investment returns in Ireland are generally subject to Exit Tax at 38% on gains within investment funds and bonds. Capital Gains Tax at 33% applies to direct investments such as shares. The structure of your investment can significantly affect your tax position. We factor tax efficiency into every recommendation we make.
Most investment products allow access to your money, though early encashment may result in charges or a loss if markets have fallen since you invested. This is why we always recommend having an adequate emergency fund in place before committing money to longer-term investments. We will be clear about liquidity terms before you commit to anything.
Child Benefit is currently 140 euros per child per month. Rather than spending it or leaving it in a current account, investing it through a regular savings plan from birth can build a significant education or life fund by the time your child reaches 18. Even modest amounts invested consistently over 18 years can accumulate substantially thanks to compound growth.
Your attitude to risk describes how comfortable you are with the possibility that your investment value could fall in the short term in exchange for the potential of higher returns over time. We assess this through a structured conversation before making any recommendation. There is no right or wrong answer. What matters is that your investment matches how you actually feel, not how you think you should feel.
